so how does one fly a glider with hand controls. Well here is a close
up of a set of hand controls.
. The yellow knob is the tow release to let go of the tow plane when
high enough it is exactly the same as for everyone else.
. The Blue handle controls the airbrakes or spoilers notice the holes
they have locking positions since you don't have two left hands you have
to lock the spoilers this is done by pulling the control out sliding it
where you want them and then putting a pin in one of the holes, instead
of manually holding them while landing.
The Black handle is how one controls the rudder, this is the control
that replaces the footpedals and allows one to make smooth turns.
pulling the handle back towards the rear causes the rudder to turn the
aircraft to the right. pushing it forward turns the rudder to the left
which along with the airelons on the wing (Which are controlled by the
stick in your right hand) to make a smooth turn.
it is as simple as that. But like riding a bike or driving or any other
skill it takes practice to fly smoothly some learn faster than others.
there is no set time.
