Freedom's Wings International Wheelchair Flying For People With Disabilities
A division of the SSA
Freedom Flight June 2007

The joint flying event at PGC on June 2/3 was a huge success, despite the weather. We gave a total of 21 rides on Saturday, 7 more than our two-day tally in 2006. Everyone came back with a huge smile on their face, and we made a lot of new friends. Additionally, we have some interest in student training, which will hopefully allow us to expand out pilot base. FWI is most grateful to PGC for hosting this event, contributing the use of one of their Grobs, and picking up the cost of the tows. Also thanks to volunteer pilots Bruce Brown, Gil Frost, Richard Fucci, Bob & Lynne Greenblatt, Chris Lapinski, ground support Diana and Bill Dade, Steve Lacouette, Cathy Anne McLaughlin, Bill Murphy, Carl Slegel, and all of the PGC members, too many to mention, that worked very hard to make this event the huge success that it was, from running the line to grilling hamburgers and everything else in between.

FWI is based at Van Sant Airport in Erwinna, PA just 14 miles northeast of PGC. PGC is based in Hilltown, Pennsylvania and is one of the oldest and best equiped glider clubs in the country. You can learn more about them at www.pgcsoaring.org

Any SSA club interested in introducing soaring to persons with disabilities in their community should contact us.

Persons with physical disabilities are invited to contact FWI anytime about an introductory ride or participating in an administrative capacity. FWI also needs and welcomes able-bodied volunteers interested in assisting and supporting our mission on the field and off. And last but not least, Freedom's Wings International is a 501(c) non-profit organization entirely supported by your contributions of which 100 percent is used to support our programs.
